About Every Other Weekend

One of the simple moments that stayed with us. Making pinecone bird feeders on the deck — nothing elaborate, just time together that we still remember years later.

Every Other Weekend grew out of a simple reality: being a dad doesn't always look the way you expected it to.

Families change. Schedules change. Kids grow. And the way you stay connected may need to change along with them.

EOW is here to make some of that easier — with practical plans, useful ideas, and a grounded approach to making the time you have count.

What mattered most wasn't creating perfect weekends. It was showing up consistently, being present, and making the ordinary moments count.

I'm Michael, the Dad Behind Every Other Weekend

I've been a father through divorce, remarriage, two homes, and a blended family that brought biological children and stepchildren into my life.

Along the way, I learned that being present for your kids rarely looks as neat as the parenting advice makes it sound.

Some of the moments I remember most weren't elaborate trips or perfectly planned weekends. They were ordinary things — making something together, going for a drive, sharing a meal, sitting around a fire, or simply being available when one of the kids wanted to talk.

EOW grew out of those years — the routines that helped, the plans that changed, the ordinary moments that mattered, and the things I wish I'd understood sooner.

Why I Created EOW

I didn't create Every Other Weekend because I figured out some perfect formula for fatherhood.

I created it because I know what it feels like to want the time with your kids to matter — and to put pressure on yourself to get it right.

Over the years, I found that a little structure could help.

A plan gave us somewhere to begin. A backup made it easier when things changed. Familiar routines created continuity. And sometimes the best decision was to stop trying to make something happen and just be together.

Those experiences eventually became the foundation for Every Other Weekend.

Not a set of rules for how to be a dad.

A practical resource you can use, adapt, or leave behind depending on what fits your family.

What You'll Find Here

EOW is built to help with both sides of staying connected: making the most of the time you're together and maintaining the relationship in between.

You'll find Weekend Blueprints that provide enough structure to get started without planning every minute.

You'll find the Midweek Reset, a practical approach to staying connected to your kids' everyday lives between the times you're together.

You'll also find ideas, perspective, and real-life lessons for some of the less predictable parts of fatherhood — changing plans, low-energy days, transitions, kids getting older, and the questions that can come with trying to stay close.

Use what helps.

Adapt what needs to change.

Leave behind what doesn't fit your family.

Built in the Hudson Valley

Every Other Weekend begins in the Hudson Valley because it's the community I know.

That means some Weekend Blueprints include places and activities across Putnam, Dutchess, Westchester, Ulster, and the surrounding area — giving dads practical starting points without hours of searching and planning.

But the ideas behind EOW aren't limited to one place.

A simple plan, an ordinary routine, or a better way to stay connected can work wherever your time together happens.

What EOW Is Really About

Every family is different.

So are the schedules, relationships, challenges, and circumstances that shape the time dads have with their kids.

EOW isn't here to tell you what your family should look like or what a meaningful relationship with your kids is supposed to look like.

It's here to make it a little easier to keep building the one you have.

Make the time you have count.
